My father and I had a great time visiting the Knossos Palace and Heraklion Archeological Museum with Jacob as our guide. He responded quickly to messages and was courteous and professional during the trip. The restaurant he suggested for lunch was excellent. We got to drive all around the mountains while talking about history and nature of Chania/Crete. We even got to a location where we could see both the Mediterranean Sea and of the Sea of Crete at the same time. We had the best time and the best driver! Began with a winding drive to Elafonisi beach stopping along the way for Beeswax honey and cheese in herbed oil. Sofia our guide treated us to local apples and oranges along the way. Elafonisi was a beach that almost feels like a gigantic warm swimming pool, with pink and metallic hued sand in the water. The cave was an invigorating hike replete with birds, bats, stalactites and a fascinating and tragic history. The Archontas restaurant featured Cretan mountain top cuisine, a sumptuous repost. For all those who love hiking and nature, you get your money's worth here. However, the trail is sometimes very rocky and steep and therefore only recommended for people with a good reason fitness.The transfer worked great. Small deduction as the driver was unfortunately 40 minutes late. However, the people were extremely friendly and the contact in advance of the arrangement worked very well. We were offered a tour with another couple instead of a private tour, as they were picked up from the same region as us. We agreed to this and even got a discount as a thank you. Even after we had finished the hike, we were picked up at a precisely agreed location and driven back to the hotel. There would also have been the possibility to get a guide for the hike through the gorge to it. However, we did not want to do this and preferred to hike independently. There were then several bottles of water and the admission was already included in the price.Some general information about the hike itself. As I said, some reason fitness should be available, as it was an average of 30-35°C and not all shade present during the hike. Sufficient water and food is strongly recommended. Also to inform yourself in advance when the ferry is going is very useful. We already started hiking in the morning as it was even cooler there. And were done with the hike after 4.5 hours. However, the ferry only ran once that day and that was only at 5:30 p.m. So we had to wait 3.5 hours at the port for the ferry. There are, however, numerous restaurants and refreshments, so we could shorten the waiting time with cool drinks and something to eat. The driver Jacob was very pleasant and drove safely. The price included a bottle of water and a baking specialty from Crete. The guide Jacob speaks very good English and there was a lot of interesting information around the tour and also around Greece. The car was a Landrover Discovery Sport from 2015 in very good condition. The tour price also included admission to the botanical garden, which was worth seeing in itself. We had 2h time for the 2.5 km long route with a lot of fancy plants. We would do this tour again anytime !!! Please compare with other providers: they do not get a private tour there but you are in the same vehicle with other people, but the price for the tour is only slightly lower!Posted on TripadvisorVerified Amazing Day with stunning beaches We had am amazing day thanks to Holiophilia and Jacob.We didn't have a lot of time on the island but we still wanted to enjoy the beautiful Cretan beaches so we booked the Balos and Falasarna private tour with Heliophilia. It was the best decision we made during our trip! Everything from the booking, communications, pick up and the tour itself were perfect.In the morning Jacob was perfectly on time at our hotel to pick us up with a brand new Land Rover to start our tour. He even brought us a small cretan breakfast pie, which was amazing. We then made our way to Balos to beat the morning crowd and the huge ferries. We had a relaxing drive, during which Jacob explained to us a lot of things about the island and also local stories. At Balos we enjoyed the stunning beach and had an amazing time in the water. After that he took us to an authentic Greek taverna (honestly, this place is now on my top 3 list of best restaurants in the world) where we enjoyed some incredible and real Cretan cuisine.After the lunch we drove to Falasarna Beach to indulge in another stunning beach. After we had enough of the sun, Jacob drove us back to our hotel. We shot off to Elafonissi beach, stopped at a couple of view points whilst absorbed the culture and stories from Jacob, my dedicated private tour guide. At the beach Jacob found the best spot a little more in while explored the small island off the beach. I collected lots of pink sand in these hidden spots.After the beach we went to the Caves of God Wisdom where we first stopped for real Greek coffee overlooking a beautiful view. The caves were great and I got lots of great pictures taken.On the way back we stopped at this incredibly amazing garden village restaurant and had a proper home cooked meal. The son of the restaurant owner Demitris running the Deroukos taverna was so hospitable, shared alot of local food knowledge and gave me tree grown fruits.This was an exciting and active tour for those who have the curiosity hat on! Jacob and Sophia were present at all times tsking care of my needs and amending schedules and stops based on my pace and needs. We first headed to the war museum, a family through generations owned museum that offered WW2 items from toothpaste to machine guns. It was truly informative and the guide was outstanding. Imbros Gorge took us 3 hours and was very interesting with midpoint rests. After the beautiful gorge we headed further south to the beach where a fresh fisherman's lunch was served followed by iced refreshing coffee. We had beautiful conversations with Jacob and Sofia who are vet passionate about their tours and guest experiences. Right after lunch we headed by foot to an outstanding beach that had hidden caves and crystal clear waters. Instagram perfect is just about right!
